”Changing Lives Through Faith, Compassion, and Education”

The People Empowerment Life Project Foundation (P.E.L.P Foundation) is a non-profit, grassroots humanitarian organization founded in 2003 by Mustapha Jaiteh in The Gambia. Born from a deeply personal calling and grounded in the Islamic principles of charity (sadaqah), compassion (rahmah), and community service, the foundation exists to empower the most vulnerable members of society—orphans, widows, the poor, and the forgotten.

Born into a devout Muslim family, Mustapha Jaiteh was raised with a strong sense of moral responsibility, a deep reverence for education, and a profound compassion for others. As a child, he witnessed firsthand the struggles of his community: children deprived of schooling, families battling poverty, and widows facing life alone. These experiences stirred something within him—a lifelong calling to serve.

Guided by faith and a heart full of purpose, Mustapha envisioned a better future not only for his village but for communities across The Gambia and beyond. That vision gave birth to the P.E.L.P Foundation—a beacon of hope for those often overlooked, dedicated to providing education, support, and opportunity where it is needed most.

Over the years, and by the grace and will of God, the foundation has grown from a humble initiative into a nationally recognized force for good. Through its schools, religious centers, and outreach programs, it has empowered thousands, bringing light and dignity into lives once shrouded by hardship.

Mustapha Jaiteh, often referred to as a “One Man Army,” remains the heart of this mission. His unwavering commitment, humility, and tireless work have inspired many and proved that a single individual, driven by faith and compassion, can make a monumental difference.

In Islam and in many faith traditions, charity is not only a noble act—it is a spiritual obligation. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that “The best charity is that given in secret and to those in need” and emphasized that even a smile is a form of charity. Through the P.E.L.P Foundation, these teachings come to life, transforming faith into action and compassion into lasting change.

Today, the P.E.L.P Foundation continues its mission to ensure that no child is left behind, that no widow is forgotten, and that every individual is given a chance to thrive. It stands as a powerful testament to the impact of charity when driven by love, guided by faith, and fueled by a desire to uplift humanity.
